This Privacy Policy explains how Drop (“Drop”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Drop Driver App and related services (the “Service”) to offer rides and deliveries in Nigeria.
By registering as a driver or delivery partner and using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Information We Collect
Account & profile information
- Full name, gender, and date of birth
- Email address
- Phone number (used to sign in and to verify your identity by SMS code)
- Password (stored only in secure, hashed form, so we never see your actual password)
- Profile photo
- Residential address and an emergency contact
Identity, licence & vehicle information
To keep the platform safe and meet legal requirements, we collect verification information before you can go online:
- Government-issued identification, including your National Identification Number where required
- Driver’s licence details, a photo of your licence, and a verification selfie
- Vehicle details (make, model, colour, year, and registration/plate number) and vehicle photos
Payment & earnings information
- Bank account details you provide to receive earnings payouts
- Subscription status and payment records
Location information
With your permission, we collect your precise (GPS) location while you are online and on a trip, including while the app runs in the background, to match you with nearby ride and delivery requests, provide navigation, calculate trip distances and fares, enable real-time trip tracking for customers, verify trip completion, and support safety. You can manage location access in your device settings, but you cannot go online without it.

How We Use Your Information
- Create and manage your driver account
- Verify your identity, licence, and vehicle before you can accept trips
- Match you with nearby customers and provide navigation
- Calculate fares and distances, process your earnings, and pay out to your bank
- Manage your subscription and Welcome Gift
- Enable in-app chat, ratings, and real-time trip tracking
- Maintain safety, detect and prevent fraud, and secure the platform
- Provide support and improve the Service
- Comply with legal, tax, and regulatory obligations
Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law, including Nigeria’s Data Protection Act, requires a legal basis, we rely on: your consent (for example, for location and push notifications); performance of our contract with you to provide the Service; our legitimate interests in keeping the platform safe, preventing fraud, and improving the Service; and compliance with our legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time as described below.
How We Share Your Information
We share only what is necessary to operate the Service, and we do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
Customers
Customers you are matched with can see your first name, profile photo, vehicle details, and driver rating, and can communicate with you in the app during a trip.
Service providers who process data on our behalf
- Supabase: secure cloud database, authentication, and hosting
- Google Maps / Directions: maps, routing, and distance and fare estimates
- Flutterwave and Monnify: processing your subscription payments and earnings payouts, including verifying your bank account for payouts
- Africa’s Talking: sending SMS one-time verification codes
- Expo: delivering push notifications
- Sentry: crash reporting and performance diagnostics
These providers may only use your information to perform services for Drop, under agreements that require them to protect it.
Legal & safety
We may disclose information to government authorities or other parties where required by law, or where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, the public, or Drop.
International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers process data on servers located outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with applicable data-protection law.
Data Retention
We keep your information only for as long as necessary to operate the platform, process payments, comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except for records (such as verification, earnings, and tax records) that we are required to retain by law.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure) to protect your information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, delete your data, receive a copy of your data, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
- Delete your account: you can delete your account and associated personal data directly in the app under Account → Security → Delete Account, or by contacting us. Certain records may be retained where the law requires.
- Location & notifications: you can manage these permissions at any time in your device settings.
- Complaints: you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

Eligibility & Children’s Privacy
The Drop Driver App is intended only for individuals who are legally eligible to work as drivers or delivery partners. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a revised Effective Date and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
