This Privacy Policy explains how Drop (“Drop”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Drop Customer App and related services (the “Service”). Drop operates a ride-hailing and delivery platform in Nigeria.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Information We Collect
Account & profile information
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number (used to sign in and to verify your identity by SMS code)
- Password (stored only in secure, hashed form, so we never see your actual password)
- Profile photo (optional)
- Saved and recent locations, including delivery addresses
Location information
With your permission, we collect your precise (GPS) location while you are using the app to set your pickup point, match you with nearby drivers, estimate fares and delivery charges, provide navigation and live trip tracking, and support safety. We collect location only while you use the app. You can turn location access off in your device settings, though core features will not work without it.
Trip & delivery information
- Pickup and destination addresses
- Chosen service and vehicle type, and fare estimates
- Scheduled rides, trip and delivery history, and receipts
- 4-digit pickup and drop-off codes used to confirm the correct trip
- For deliveries: item description and an optional photo of the item
Communications & feedback
- In-app chat messages with your driver during a trip, including any images you attach
- Messages you send to customer support
- Ratings, tags, and feedback you provide after a trip

- Device model, operating system version, and app version

- Create and manage your account and verify your identity
- Provide ride-hailing and delivery services and connect you with drivers

Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law, including Nigeria’s Data Protection Act, requires a legal basis, we rely on: your consent (for example, for location and push notifications); performance of our contract with you to provide the Service you request; our legitimate interests in keeping the platform safe, preventing fraud, and improving the Service; and compliance with our legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time as described below.

Drivers
The driver fulfilling your ride or delivery receives your first name, pickup and drop-off details, and can communicate with you in the app for that trip.
Service providers who process data on our behalf
- Supabase: secure cloud database, authentication, and hosting
- Google Maps / Directions: maps, routing, and time and distance estimates
- Africa’s Talking: sending SMS one-time verification codes
- Expo: delivering push notifications
- Sentry: crash reporting and performance diagnostics
These providers may only use your information to perform services for Drop, under agreements that require them to protect it.
Legal & safety
We may disclose information to government authorities or other parties where required by law, or where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, the public, or Drop.
International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers process data on servers located outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with applicable data-protection law.
Data Retention
We keep your information only for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we are required to retain certain records by law.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure) to protect your information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, delete your data, receive a copy of your data, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
- Delete your account: you can delete your account and associated personal data directly in the app under Account → Security → Delete Account, or by contacting us.
- Location & notifications: you can manage these permissions at any time in your device settings.
- Complaints: you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

Children’s Privacy
Drop is not directed to children under the age required by applicable law to use our Service independently, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a revised Effective Date and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
